Peter, those are very attractive. I like the green match art that goes with it too.

I love Earth Stars! They're one of my favorite bromeliads. Have you ever tried a Bilbergia? I just got one to bloom as a house plant a few weeks ago, the bloom was very short lived (only a week or so) but quite spectacular and apparently the plant will rebloom a number of times in a season!

The one I had was labled Bilbergia non-scriptus which doesn't really seem like a valid latin name so I'm guessing that it's probably a hybrid but nutans is a nice plant too.

Non scriptus means "not written", so, no, probably not a valid name.

I did look in my Bromeliad Lexicon, but did not find "non-scriptus" 8) ;)
I think you are right with your suggestion, a hybrid!

Anyway

That one is spectacular, it almost looks like a Heliconia in miniature. I love latin names that tell you what the plant looks like (as opposed to someones name).

Nothing like reviving an old post. Can someone ID this and tell me how critical or not critical the humidity requirements are? Also what are the light requirements?

Probably Neoregelia, no clue which one. Likes bright light, but not direct sun, and water in its "cup," which will keep the humidity where it should be. Here is a place to start: http://www.bromeliads.info/archives/gro ... s#more-687" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Hmmm says misting is recommended. I thought misting doesn't work.

These are jungle plants that thrive in air that is so humid that if you inhale too deeply you are liable to drown. Misting couldn't hurt!

Maybe a pebble tray would be good as well. As for air circulation its near a vent.
