It's a Greenhouse!

Post by John C »

Enough with the little temporary greenhouses! (Which fell down with the first storm any ways! lol  So it didn't last long at all. Didn't expect it to though. )
I'm going with a real greenhouse now! 8)

Found a bunch of different sites saying different ways to make a greenhouse and found one way that seemed to work well and not be to expensive. Changed it up a little bit and started building yesterday. (Sunday, August 9, 2009)

Heres where it is going to go.

Some of the rebar is in the ground.

Some of the frame is up.

And the ribs are up now.

More pics to come.

Just got to get the plastic, put some gravel down, and make some tables and then I have a real greenhouse! :D Nothing that will fall down with 25mph winds  lol!

John,
These building projects are fun to watch. The PVC setup looks like a great way to go. I'm curious to see how you will attach the plastic. How tall is it at the peak?

It is around 75" tall. (a little over 6 feet)
As for the plastic I am going to wrap it around the greenhouse from the bottom side, to the bottom other side. Still trying to figure out the best way to do it on the back.

Looking good John! 8)

I agree with Darryl, look at all that room! Do you have a proposal for a bigger greenhouse in the future? 8)

I'd move the back up against that wall... keeps the rain out, but airflow going... And the plastic sheeting... I would fold over pipes and duct-tape any loose flaps down. That stuff just clings more with time....

Of coarse I don't know how much isolation you need for temps... I live in a snow and frost free area.

The hoop parts... did you just bend some pvc pipes? neat idea...

Lookin' good, John! I was expecting BIGGER with all that space you have. That will be next, I assure you. Your neighbor's crepe myrtles are lookin' good too. They are AKA the "Flower of the South".

Yeah well, I figured I would start out with this, but I'm sure it will be bigger sooner than I think.
Yes the crepe myrtles are VERY popular plants here. We have a total of 6 in our yard alone. Neat plants though and super easy to grow!

Plastic is up!

Just got to build a door or something for the front. I am putting gravel down, inside, now. Then I just have to build a table and it will be finished! :D I'll take more pics once I finish with the gravel.

OK, I was wondering how you were going to do the front and back. In your area, I think you'll have to keep it open most of the time, no?
