some kind of euphorbia?when i bought it a few years ago the tag said african milk cactus its the one with the red tips

Hi Bob,
You are correct in both your assumptions: Euphorbia and Mammillaria. The question is which ones.
My "guess" for the Euphorbia is fruticosa because of the size and the red spines, or maybe echinus which is similar.
The Mam I'm not certain about. Looks very much like knippeliana, unless someone knows better.

I don't have a clue on Euphorbia identification, but on the Mamm. I'd look at M. karwinskiana.
