Here, hopefully is my entry. Not a winner judging by the other pictures, but I just love the spines and two types of hair. Why on earth did those two types disallowed - see forum rules and what are their function? Answers on a postcard . . .

This might be my favorite topic so far ... other then things with flowers!!
When it comes to spines, IMHO, Ferocactus are king. Especially, many of our Baja California natives such as this one: Ferocactus townsendianus --or,more currently: F. peninsulae subsp. townsendianus.
If you are a Niven and Pournelle fan, you have to think that the plants around the "burning city" looked a lot like this!
