Hello!
Very cool terrariums, but I can create my own... that is if I knew what they're using for the soil.
Does anyone have any ideas? Ground up Perlite?
BTW, my terrariums have large openings for air circulation.

What ARE They Using in Lieu of Soil on This Site?
I don't know what it is. Hard to tell just by looking at the picture. Could be perlite like you say or white sand, or ?
But as unsuitable as that environment is for plants, they could just as soon be using salt crystals.
Cactus and most succulent plants do not do well in a terrarium for a number of reasons. Poor air circulation being just one of them. I put this article together a little while back as the subject comes up quite frequently:
