Building a Bigger Rack for Cacti (lots of images)

Post by hafezzahruddin »

Hey there, remember the cacti rack I made with recycled timber and the work of relocating my cacti in a brighter spot? Here:http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15311

Well, the rack has no more space for my growing collection, so I have to make a bigger one. This time, using bricks and some recycled timber of unwanted IKEA kitchen rack.

I dream of the day where I can afford to build a structure kinda like a greenhouse but without any walls. Just clear roofing. The climate is warm, I just need clear roofing coz of the rains.

Your collection is growing fast! You are definitely hooked! :D

You mentioned a future rain shelter, do they have protection on the new bench too?
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

Nice work! It's always a challenge to keep up with a growing collection!

The grafts are looking great!

Thanks Daiv, TimN.

Yes, this one is sheltered from rain as well. And yes, I am definitely hooked. But as grow along with your cacti madness, you'll realize that there will be this particular cacti that really grab your attention - you'll narrow it down to one or two types. As for me, they are Gymnocalycium sp., Mammilaria sp. and Astrophytumsp. I don't have any Astrophytum though, but I'm in the proces of buying Astrophytum asteria and myriostigma mixed variety seeds from Kada's Garden and waiting for the invoice. Can't wait to grow 'em!

Is that a small melocactus developing a cephalium in the back? 1 plant to the right of the echinopsis (?), gymno(?) developing a flower?

Well, the actual fact is I dont really know what kind of cactus it is. And it is not developing a cephallum. It's just a crowded spine growth.
