Another Blunder...

Post by daiv »

Someone recently e-mailed me about an incorrect spelling. I've done that plenty of times, but this was for a whole category.

On this page:
http://www.cactiguide.com/habitsearch/

I had "Cylindrical-Pendent"

listed as

"Cylindrical-Pendant"

As in a pendant on a necklace or something. I think it has been like that for 4-5 years! #-o

If you guys ever see a post where I claim to be without mistakes, then you'll know that someone hijacked my username and password! :confused2:

At any rate, I was very glad the person took the time to notify me.

Matt LoL
I can be a spelling Nazi but my fingers type faster then my brain can think so I usually mess up and have to retype half my postings. LoL

Daiv,
LoL we all make mistakes. what is worse is that it took like 5 years for someone to notice!

I have a feeling that my mistakes get noticed, much more frequently than they get reported. I think in part, people feel like they are offending me and so try to be polite and not say anything.

While I appreciate that, I appreciate being corrected even more - especially on Type-O's.

Daiv,
that is true. Some people dont like being corrected and other people are too shy or something to correct people. I am sorta a spelling Nazi, however I understand cause I make typos like you wouldnt believe!
Sometimes I even miss them when I read other peoples typing or my own, just cause its so natural.
(I also have a bad habit of not using "'" in contraction or using capital letters LoL

Daiv, your original spelling was fine. "Pendant" is a variant spelling of "pendent".

Interesting!

No doubt this is the result of people using the variant spelling often enough to make it a rule.

It does seem (notice the box at top) that the more proper way to spell the noun is "pendant" while the adjective is more properly "pendent".

But thanks for the support. It's good to know Merriam Webster approves!

Got it!

A good reminder that I need to get back to adding different taxonomies too!
