Opuntia santa-rita has pure lemon yellow flowers that darken to apricot when they are older. O. azurea/macrocentra has flowers with red bases to the sepals. There are other morphological differences. The only real similarities are the tendency to turn purple in winter or under stress.
This contest has really picked up steam! What wonderful photos.

I'm just glad I was able to participate in this month's contest.
I went with a different photo then what most people would have expected I am sure. I have too many Opuntia pics to be honest!
And btw I still get confused between a lot of the different types of Opuntia.

I've been waiting for this one, I already knew which pic to post in january. competition is fierce though, I think I'm going for craig and denise's picture.
