Save the Cactus: Worth Saving?

Post by Barefoot_Ted »

Howdy Folks

I have another neighbor who is starting to tear out several very old cactus stands.

Image
Three varieties here. The biggest to the left is over 10ft. tall.

Image
One down for the count. Many branches not looking too healthy.

As you can see, one is already down. There are more that I did not photograph.

If you have any idea what I am looking at here, and which may be easy enough to propagate, please let me know.

The two big ones are your standard Cereus species or what most refer to as C. peruvianus.

The smaller ones are Echinopsis spachiana.

They are all three extremely easy to grow. They tolerate a wide variety conditions, grow fast, and flower readily. Hence their popularity.

All you have to do is stick them in the ground, they'll do the rest.

For that matter, if you just left them laying there, they'd root out the side and grow up from there.

Hey Barefoot Ted. What would it take to get you to help a fellow cacti lover get some of those cuttings from the cacti on the right.

Just curious :)

I have no idea what is up, but the photos should be viewable.

Daiv, any ideas?

My guess is that the host site was down for a little while. I can see them now whereas earlier I couldn't see any of Barefoot Ted's pictures.

If they still are not displaying for anyone, let me know.
