Under[winter]cover

Post by CoronaCactus »

A couple of pics of our greenhouse all covered up for winter.

It gets really warm in there during the day, so i added 2 louvered vents on the rear wall and plan to add a large vent above the front door. However, due to my DIY design, i need to replace the first hoop rafter. With little support it tweeked with the heat and wind. No worries, the new greenhouse kit is 48' long but i plan to match the current 40' GH, so i have an extra rafter ;) I also added slats along the sides at the 3' height to allow the bottom to roll up.

The new GH frame kit came...with a story!
Ordered Dec 12, supposed to be delivered on Dec. 22. Which was perfect, as thats when my holiday time off started. We called multiple times to confirm and verify since placing the order. All was on track.

Dec 22 came and went with no delivery. Called on the 23rd; They decided to take on another load in Utah and got stuck in a snow storm, our delivery will now be delayed until Jan 3rd. So all my time off was spent NOT building a new GH. Obviously that didn't go well, but we're rolling with it.

Anyway, here's a peak and what will soon be ;)

Will get ya a few inside shots next time I'm over there, Daiv.

Tony, doing anything this weekend? ;)

I also had a little fun with the truck pulling out a Palo Verde tree while clearing the area for the new GH. This was a sapling, trunk was only 4-4.5" in diameter but man, they have some strong roots!

Very interesting Darryl. And nice to see trees with their leaves on!!! Eucalyptus sp.?

Good luck with the greenhouses. Maybe one day I'll make it over to sunny California.

Looks like heaven to me.

and sometimes hot as hell! ;)
Pics make it look even more packed in and crowded...but in reality it's not that bad really.

Im hip! The other day when I was over there, it was a cool Mid to upper 50's slightly overcast day. I walked past the door opening and was blown away by the heat flowing out of there.

Thanks Daiv. I'm very glad and grateful we've been climbing up the ladder, and not down.
