MN Outdoor Cacti 2011

Post by daiv »

Well my outdoor plants are all under snow right now. But they did melt off for a couple days and I got some pictures. If I didn't know better I would think they were all done for.

Daiv,
haha they still look like they "could" be dead, but I know otherwise. I watched my O. humifusa this year and it made an interesting transformation almost over night. They actually plumped up and put on buds on one of the coldest days we have had in the past couple of weeks, which I thought kinda funny

What is that spinier Opuntia in the first picture? Is it also O. humifusa or is it polycantha or something?
:)

Daiv, ah, ok thanks. I have trouble telling them apart when they are shriveled up like that! :)

I also have a hybrid polycantha/fragalis which is probably why I got confused as well! :)

There hasn't been a whole lot of change since my last post, but it is just around the corner.

And Pediocactus buds are visible:

Time for an update!

These Pediocactus have been much better illustrated in the past. Here are two pictures just to show that they are there and still doing their thing this year:

Now here are the Devils Tower Escobaria and they are looking as good as ever. I'm so happy with these. Look at the 4th picture at the very start of this thread and you'll see what they looked like only a little while ago.

Hey, I meant to ask, did the seed arrive OK? I sent some to Tony and he said it got ground to bits. :(

Yeah, I think they send envelopes through the machine there, not an ideal place for seeds to go. Looks like about half of mine were ground up but there is some good ones left. I wasn't going to start them til winter but maybe I get a small pot going now.
