Alumitex shade cloth: good or bad!??!

Post by evelyn »

Howdy folks,

I live in Texas, and just installed a small 6x8' hobby greenhouse for my cactus. I've been doing some online research, but can't figure out what type of shade cloth is best: 40%, 50%?, black, white or Alumitex. Everyone seems to have a different opinion of what works best! The Alumitex looks interesting to me...has anyone had any experience with it? Thanks!

I think TimN has the Aluminet stuff.
Here in SoCal we use 40 and 50% KNITTED cloth, make sure you get knitted or any cut or tear will unravel it. I can't justify the high cost of the Aluminet. Regular cloth works great for us. The 40% is used for our collection plants and 50 for the nursery plants. Either works great for all types of Cacti. Ive always said it's much easier to add more shade when using a lighter cloth than trying to add more light with a darker cloth ;)

I found a great place online for cloth. Good fast service and quality cloth.
