Slow Chollas

Post by cactoman »

My C. imbricatas have plumped up and are nice and green, but, they show no sign whatever of new growth into July. I am in Western Washington state, the Spring and summer have been cool until a few days ago... any ideas?

Is this their first year since cuttings? Maybe they are working on roots. Certainly once they start growing, they should put on new stems every spring.

No, one of them has been in the ground for 6 years, the other was gathered a year ago with its entire root ball...

Yeah, that is a bit strange, although not unheard of. The only thing you can really do is dig it up and look at the roots. See if there might be a problem underneath. Otherwise, you just have to wait for it to do its thing. Either option is less than satisfactory, I realize. :?
