Indoor greenhouse

Post by Johnwinner555 »

I live in an apartment complex and was wondering if there were any mini indoor greenhouses with lights for sale. The only one I found is here http://www.buyplantlights.com/indoor_greenhouse.php[/url]

If you are growing cactus/succulents, the greenhouse part is not necessary - just use the lights. A greenhouse in the sun traps heat from the sun (think "greenhouse effect"). With the light/heat source INSIDE the greenhouse as shown, it will mostly act as a humidity chamber. (Although I guess it will trap radiant heat from the light fixture as well.

Also, you would be better off having an opaque box with reflective interior walls, thus reflecting the light back onto the plants, not escaping out into the room.

What are some of the species you wanted to grow under lights? Some can go this route, while many cacti will etiolate as it won't be enough light.

For seedlings, throw everything I said in my last post right out the window!

Seriously, the rules are a lot different for seedlings. Lots of info in the "grown from seed" section. Do a keyword search also on "propagator".

Here is an article I wrote which touches on it:

For lighting, check out this info from Ian - scroll to the last section which addresses seedlings:
