Hi Spikey-

Mammillaria seeds germinate well for me without any presoaking or special treatment. Just be sure you soak them in after sowing and keep the seed pot warm (65F or so at the overnight low, 85-90F during the day) and fairly moist for the first two weeks without any drying out (but not soggy!). If you are able to provide at least 14 hours of light, this seems to help as well.

Hi, PeterB has given you sound advice, but living in England I would wait until Spring next year to sow the plants, unless of course you have a heated propagator to keep them ticking over through the winter.

Some people use a reptile pad which will keep the temp at about 80 deg F and should work. It is available here at pet stores.
