Settled down for a long winter's nap

My outdoor Opuntias doing what they should. It was about 11F at the time; last night it got down to at least 8. And we've been even a bit colder. I guess this is the last I'll see of them until I get back in April. (Isn't Nature's plant adaptation amazing?)

and the best part? They will be nice in perky when you see them again!

BTW my O. humifusa is asleep as well. We had one cold night and it dehydrated.

It is amazing how much these things transform from winter to summer. Even when you know what to expect, it doesn't seem possible.

We finally got some snow yesterday and have about 3 inches maybe. Otherwise we were terribly bare and brown around here. I should have taken advantage of that and got some outdoor shots like you did. The coldest we've had so far is zero which should be no problem for the species I have outside here.

I'm hoping that the dryness makes up for the lack of cover this winter.

That makes two of us, daiv! The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts near normal snow and a bit colder than normal for the Northeast. For you out there in MN, it says colder than normal with above normal snowfall. Don't you love this 'wait and see' game??

We should have had alot more snow by now, nice shots fanaticactus

i just love how the pads look when there sleeping for winter time, but mine are under nice thick pine needles and this nice fluffy layer of snow now.. LOL!! Im gona have to wait till spring when the snow melts and i clean off the pine needles to see mine again..
