Hi all cacti-fellows, I am another cacto-adduct. My recent interests are those leafy cactus like Pereskia and Pereskiopsis. The attached is my Pereskiopsis velutina photo.
Cheers,

Pereskia
Hi Blossfeldia,
Intesting genus you've picked. I can't say that I've kept any of those, but you don't see them for sale very often in the UK.
It will be interesting to see how you get on with them. Give us an update later on.

Re: Pereskia
Hi John, it is very easy to get one if you live in UK. Most "Ethnobotanical shops" in E.U. do carry Pereskiopsis spathulata, which is more elegant than the one I have.templegatejohn wrote:Hi Blossfeldia,

The following are the links I got from google, I haven't tried any of them though!

Finally, do visit http://www.uhlig-kakteen.de webshop. They have several hard to find Pereskia and Pereskiopsis spathulata.
Hope this helps

The overall outlook is nice and decent when served as grafting stock. Its broad leaves make it looks like a small bonsai tree.

Daiv, glad to know you like it too. I do have several Pereskia species, and one Pereskiopsis at this moment. I shall upload their photo later on. If you found them useful, you may include it in your gallery. I got my Pereskiopsis accidentally when I bought one of a strange grafted bishop cactus. To keep a long story short, later on this stick produce some off shoots and I knew that I really got a good stuff.daiv wrote:Yes, I've found it very difficult to track down much information at all on either of those. I think they are quite fascinating. Do you have many different species? I'd love to see more pictures of them if you can share them. I'd also like to know how you find them.
Daiv
Pereksia, you can find it from a lot of mail order shops for both plants and seeds.
The following shops I got them from google, haven't tried them though except mesagarden:

That's great info!
Have you looked at the few species I have pictured? Can you confirm that I have identified them correctly. I typically like to cross-reference several sources when identifying, but found myself lucky to have 1 source on these guys.
Here are some quick links:

Thanks

Daiv, thanks for your info. It is diffcult to judge with 100% confirmation without the closeup of flower, fruits/seeds and aeroles. And I don't have the classification scheme on hand either. So, I just took those names offered from the nursery "as is".daiv wrote:That's great info!

As most of your Pereskia photo were taken in the public botanical garden or nursery, so I will take them "as is" too(P. acuelata and P. grandiflora do look like mine too, FYI)
One thing I am curious to further investigate, could you take a close up of the aeroles of this plant?

if you find it has NO glochids(in form of tuft of hair, or small brittle irritating spines), then it is possibly not Pereskiopsis.
