Ok, I did finish the garden towards the end of July. Here are some photos showing the progress:
In this photo I have my first preliminary placement of the new plants. I think I spent a full day just trying to arrange them somehow. I had it all pictured in my head, but I just couldn't re-create it in my garden, so I did the best I could.
Also in this photo you see that there are rocks on top of the soil around the Ocotillo. I put them there because early on in the remodel a strong storm was coming and I didn't want all of my freshly installed soil to erode away. Storm never came, but I decided that the rocks looked really good there, so I left them.
While I was working on my garden one of my awesome neighbors offered me a pile of rocks that he had left over from a previous project. I brought them to my garden and used nearly all of them. It looks even better with all of the extra, various sized rocks!
By evening it was finally starting to come together
Almost there!
Finally! It's complete!
Between the rocks is an Echinocereus stramineus and an Escobaria sneedii. Also, I decided to leave the "twice edged" area of the garden. I planted a Coryphantha sulcata right in between the two stones. After all of the top dressing and various rocks were added, the double edge was no longer obvious.
I am mostly pleased with the result. I accidently planted the E. grusonii a little to far to the right - I think I might have to move it over.
Thank you to all who were kind enough to donate/sell plants to me to make this garden reconstruction happen. Now that they have been in the ground a couple weeks, many are already growing, especially noticeable on the small Echinocereus.
I will keep this topic updated as my garden progresses.
