Are there any general rules of grafting...basically can any cacti be grafted onto another??

If so anyone got any weird and wonderful plants they have grafted ?

You need to check out this site if you haven't seen it Jim! This is a most comprehensive site. Lots of odd grafts. I'm sure you will bookmark this site if you haven't done so already..

Hi, Valentino who owns the Cactus Art nursery has been an old friend of mine for some years and you will keep seeing my name on some of the pages of his web site as I corrected the English on many of them for him.

Valentino will graft practically everything on to Opuntia Compressa. It gives good natural growth is a long lived graft and importantly will stand quite cold conditions.

Many grafted plants that you buy are grafted on to stocks that are not hardy, hylocereus etc. This in a way tends to defeat the object of grafting as it is usually the difficult plants, that are hard to grow on their own roots that are grafted.

The grafted plant tends to take on some of the attributes of the stock that it is grafted on, giving more leeway with watering and a lower temperature in winter. If the stock needs a warmer winter temperature so will the scion.

Yes, the cactus-art site is a fine site for anyone thinking about trying there hand of grafting.

Don't think my first grafting is weird but here is Opuntia pulchella grafted onto O. compressa.
