I've had this plant for awhile now, and it suddenly sprouted aerial roots. I took it by the local nursery, and nobody there knew what it was, so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

How hardy is this plant? I have had several leaves drop off from around the stem. Is this normal?

Lower leaves dropping is normal, especially this time of year as it's starting to go dormant. Keep it on the dry side during winter. These come from Madagascar, so they won't survive low temps and will be frost tender, i've read it can down to 32F, however, i have no idea how long it can take those temps. We have a large one in the garden and it has seen one night of 28F with no ill effects. It's a large mature plant, so it may be able to take it better than a small cutting/seedling.
