Cactus Spines...

Post by Plantcelot »

I have this little problem which is quite annoying. I have a tendency to break cactus spines when I’m planting them

I´m very curious about the spines but this type of info is hard to find. Will the spines ever grow back?
Is there a way to promote new spine growth?

Kitchen tongs are usually pretty gentle on spines.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

I am really glad that I asked this question. I wish I’d know this a couple of months ago when I really got into cactus. I think this type of info is very important for the new cactus collector. I already bought several cactus books and one of succulents and they don’t mention anything about this. Before posting my question I did an extensive search on google and found no info either...

I will have to try the tongs method in order to avoid breaking the spines. I will be extremely careful at planting from now on and will check the cactus I buy to try to get the ones without the broken spines.

To the new cactus collectors remember this:

BEWARE CACTUS SPINES DO NOT GROW BACK !

Thanks guys, very valuable info
