Not cacti, but fun to share anyway.

Post by daiv »

Found this guy and a friend of his munching on my newly planted Orange tree when they were caterpillars. Well we fed them more and more leaves until finally they made cocoons. Took about two months or so to complete the metomorphosis and viola! Out comes a Giant Swallow Tail. The largest butterfly in North America.

Thanks for the comments y'all!

CP -Those must be Indian species, I've never seen any like that in these parts.

daiv, why wont you continue with this type of pics and discussion in a thread like mugshots. there are lot of happenings in farms which may not be related to cacti but are interesting like the one you have posted?

Butterflies are among the most beautiful of God's critters, How do you get them to stay still long enough to photograph, come to think of it, Daive how do you get a little girl to stay still that long? :D

CV you've certainly got some nice ones there too, I love tha brown one with the white tips.

and I agree entirely :)
CV Love your butterflies too,to be honest I like butterflies as much as I like cactus! Would love to have a huge butterfly farm :)

I agree CV! Of the more than 3,000 pictures that we took in South Africa, our favorites are of the animals. Here's a butterfly on a buddleya in a botanic garden near Hermanus SA on the southern tip of the country. This is the only one that would stand still long enough to get a pic.
