Baja habitat pics, winter 2012/2013 I, including Morangaya
Just returned from a couple weeks in Baja, driving for the 5th time in the past couple of years all the way down to Los Cabos and back. I would have liked to have another week or two or month! But there were some great cactus sights. I put several albums up on Facebook and will include the public links for those who want to see more photos, including more tourist type shots. Here, I'll just post some of the highlight pics.

- The plants were not growing far from the road as the crow flies, but the hike down a steep ravine in the rain and back up again, through the thickest brush I have ever been in, took 90 minutes.

PeterB, nice find The weather there sorta reminds me a little bit of the weather up here in Black Canyon City, although IT IS not by any stretch of the imagination "tropical" however, the mountains here tend to draw in more moisture than other areas of the much drier parts of the desert south of me, sorta like the area around Lake Pleasant (at least to the east anyways around Western New River). Cool shots, and it looks like a very neat habitat area. Someday I might visit Mexico. If I am going I will let you know haha
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.

Nice habitat pics! That's one big mound in the first picture!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.

Awesome habitat shots of the Morangaya! Definitely worth the pokes and scratches to see that up close. The only thing I know about them is they root like mad and can't tolerate a good freeze.

It was a sometimes maddening search for these plants. I was very happy to find some. I now want to get to the new habitat location discovered not too far south of La Paz. Apparently the plants have a slightly different form there.
