Finally, not perhaps "red", the colorful spines of Echinocactus texensis glazed in winter's ice.

Gettin' "serious" right off the bat! Great stuff guys! :D
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

Nice entries so far. We thought this might be a good theme for the time when some cacti start growing new spines .

Especially Ferrocactus and Thelocactus spines seem to brighten up in color when the spines are (sprayed ) wet with water.
Tony´s picture illustrates that very well.

I couldn´t find a picture of a sprayed thelocactus - so here is a dry one

I posted a wet cactus, but was tempted not to cheat and show some spines that are red when dry ...

Maybe because those are thorns not spines! :lol: Since few of us are botanists here I doubt it really matters, I just couldn't resist.
