My first greenhouse!
Woohoo! At long last (not that long, really) I've managed to get a hold of a greenhouse. I can finally move all my plants off of most of the window ledges in my house and move them somewhere where they should get much more heat and light. All shall be well. I'm so excited. I didn't think I'd be able to have a greenhouse until I had my own house, since i'm fairly young.
It's an 8 foot by 6 foot aluminium framed glass greenhouse, so I should have plenty of space for my existing collection, plus a good amount of room to expand. I'll post some pictures up within a few days, just thought I'd get it out there.

Take your time. Try to lay at least enough foundation to stop water coming from the floor. Then make sure you seal the greenhouse well as you erect it. Clear silicone sealant is invaluable. The cheaper ones leak terribly, but even more expensive designs let in some water especially at the corners. OK for tomatoes in summer, not so good for a cactus in November.
Don't worry, I predict it will be months before you fill it

Re: My first greenhouse!
Sorry to have kept you waiting! I've been held back by bad weather, uni work and a lack of motivation. However... I've managed to get the frame fully up and in place! I'm just waiting on some glazing seal now before I put the glass in. And the obligatory pictures...
It's all very rough and ready to be totally honest, but I don't know when I'll be moving house next. As long as it works, then I'm happy.

Re: My first greenhouse!
Thanks guys. My glazing seal arrived today and I managed to get two panes of glass in before I lost all fine motor function due to the cold. Hoping to get more progress done tomorrow.
Re: My first greenhouse!
Congratulations! Looking good. We're all waiting for the next update, (weather permitting of course). Really pleased for you.

Re: My first greenhouse!
Probably too late to be telling you this, but you should have applied sealant at the frame joints as well as the glass. Do it now before the glass goes in. The corners are the worst for leaks.

Nice! Congrats, Dan.
You do realize now you'll have to learn cultivation in a greenhouse setting. Quite different from windowsils

Re: My first greenhouse!
I would like to see the process of the glazing up close. I enjoy seeing all of these GH projects.
Re: My first greenhouse!
Tell him about time stealing he will have to do. Sitting there and watching cacti how they bloom is a long time job. You have to steal time feom somewhere alse. Watching TV or something.CoronaCactus wrote:You do realize now you'll have to learn cultivation in a greenhouse setting. Quite different from windowsils
