Those little Mexicans are certainly a photogenic bunch. I picked something slightly unusual for the competition, but here's a few really nice ones (from last year since there is nothing this early).

Mammillaria luethyi, obviously

The valid name for Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp. panarottoi is Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp. andersonii since Riha's name was invalidly published Jens. I believe Anderson was the first to find the plant so it was eventually named after him by A. Mosco when Riha's name proved invalid.

You will find the plant still being sold under both names though, panarottoi and andersonii.

A delicate flower!
How cold did you keep them in winter, Dave?

Great picture Dan- isn´t it nice when the flower hides almost all of the cactus?

They have been below freezing in the past Jens when covered with a layer of newspapers and some Turbinicarpus stopped in the greenhouse below freezing this year. However probably you will get an earlier start to the year with many cacti if you keep them just above freezing over winter as it does slow them down them a bit first off. Strange isn't it, when I first started in the 1960's Turbinicarpus were thought of as rare and hard to grow yet they raise easily from seed and will often flower in a couple of years or so and are pretty hardy.

They are good cacti: very handy and not hard to grow with several flowering cycles in a season
(well most of them but not these):
