Good morning memememe,

yes that is quite curious.
The plant had a fungal infection in the apex area.
A few years ago I had mice in the greenhouse.
The mice also transmit fungi with their saliva when nibbling.
Here is a photo of another infected plant.

And here the curious " cap " Astrophytum. . .

This plant is probably beyond saving.

Other plants have a different strategy for apex injuries (but this was not a fungus).

K.W., I see your Madagascar Euphorbia's in the second photo posted Jan 20, 2023. E. decaryi ? I love those plants. Do you grow them from seed? I currently have some E. tulearensis seedlings. Still in the cotyledon stage, no true leaves yet. Sowed Dec 24, 2022. Germinated Jan 5, 2023. On heat mat at about 85F or 29C during the day. Power off at 7 PM till 7 AM when power back on. Air temp is about 64-66F or 18-19C.

Good day Jerry,

yes this Euphorbia is a beautiful species.
To be honest, I can't say where I got them.
I don't do a lot of seeding and when I do it's simply in the greenhouse
when the light and temperature are right (similar to the habitat).

I wish you much success with your seedings! Show pictures!

Best regards from a colleague  ,

K.W. I enjoy seeing all of your photos. And I really like that you've included a scale in some of them. Those Mesembs/Lithops were huge!!

Thanks Jerry!
This scale is a bit big.
I used to have a smaller one that covered the plants less.
Will have to make myself another smaller one.

They are cute! I hope they will go well with Frau Klein.

Are they from an animal shelter?
