Echinocactus polycephalus growing halfway up the mountainside in Red Rock Canyon national Mounument. Grows with Sclerocactus polyancistrus and opuntia basalaris.
At the Western edge of the Mojave , snows and rains in the Winter but not much. I think its about 2500 feet above sea level.

Sclerocactus polyancistrus really tough to grow in cultivation

They grow halfway up the mountainside tough climb up very slippery lots of loose rock. This was in March nice weather very bright sunlight.

You can see them from the freeway. Red spines really standout.

Great photos, love the look of that polyancistrus, one of my favorite plants to see in the wild.
