I hope you can. Do all opuntia and mini opuntia species count for this contest?

Hello Ian, no this is birds sand - it works quite well for rooting cuttings. These tephrocactus weberi cuttings decided to flower anyway in spite of having been broken off the main stem recently...
Hello Alber Khan and Cephalophone,
this contest is for all kinds of opuntia- I guess it would even be ok if someone decides to post a nice picture of schlumbergera opuntioides.
Here are two more species of opuntia

Nice selection so far!
Opuntia should be good ones for a graphically apealing subject having those shaped outlines they have .

Nice selection of entries! Pterocactus valentinii is a species that flowers late in the summer too (as does Tephrocactus oligoacanthus)

You have a great selection of beautiful Opuntiads, Jens. Where do you get them from? I'm starting to get more and more into these miniature Opuntiads.

Daiv already posted an image of O. polyacantha from the Great Basin area.
Here is another of pads I collected (with owners permission) from an RV park trail along the Yellowstone River in Gardiner, Wy.
They had buds and shortly rewarded me with this ...

and this ... these growin only a few meters apart ... no wonder taxonomy is confusing

Gene,
I think your contest entry with the twisted spines is Opuntia sulfurea.

Nice plants and flowers. Especially these shown by Jens.

Yes, that's surely it. And, from the habitat shots on CG, a very nicely spined clone.
Thanks ... GeneS

Veeery nice. Thanks for sharing all those great photos.
I found these two flowering today - so even if it is late for this contest, I thought I ´d just post it.
