Here's on of my favorites <i>Phaius gravesiae</i> - on a snowy day.

And, this is my first year with it. But, I have read that they can be propagated from the bloom stalk - which, of course, I will try as I couldn't actually stop myself from propagating things even if I wanted too! (A little O.C.D.)




And, while I'm at it, I may as well post mu favorite Amaryllis (yeah, I grow LOTS of them too...more O.C.D.)

The wifey figure loves your Amaryllis Papilio. Is it fairly easy to grow and readily available
Any info will be appreciated.

It is as easy as any Amaryllis - and I find them to be rather easy. I put mine outside when it warms and keep it in medium sun all summer. They like to be potbound - so I TRY to give them lots of fertilizer.

I bought my original bulb about 4 years ago and there is now 2 large and 3 smaller bulbs in the pot.

They used to be more expensive...$40-$50. Now, you can find them ALOT cheaper.

In fact, here's one on Ebay for $11.99

I love Amaryllis as they mostly bloom in the dead of winter when life is drab. Mine all just finished up....but I should get seed pods from 5 different species & cultivars I have.

I have never tried raising them from seed....but what the heck....how hard can it be???

And, although I can't really bring myself to break up my bulb mass, I'd gladly share some seed from the papilio plant. I'm clueless as to anything pertaining to "growing Amaryllis from seed"....but I figure I'll find SOMETHING out here on the web - probably an Amaryllis lovers forum VERY similar to this one!
