Wow that is incredible!!! Thank you for sharing that. I wonder if it will grow a new tap root.

I think a new tap root was developed.

A tubercle with an off-set should be used for the rooting.
The off-set will grow after rooted.
It is possible to root a tubercle without off-sets but it will be happened nothing on the tubercle.

I set degrafted asterias posted on 11th August for the rooting.

When a grafting union was located deep in the scion body, a large hole is formed during degrafting as shown on the photo.
Image

The hole will never wet by normal watering from top.
I filled up the hole by wet clay grain, around 1 mm size.

All degrafted scions were set on wet potting-mix for the rooting.

I degrafted 23 of 1st filial Astrophytum hybrids for the preparation of rooting.

The species is fukuryu banjyaku x myriostigma cv kikkou.
Since banjyaku itself is a hybrid and so the species is (fukuryu myriostigma x ornatum) x myriostigma cv kikkou.
I have tried to create a species of fukuryu with kikkou ribs.

They are 2 years old.
The size is various but large ones are 11 cm in diameter and they were in flower last spring.
After the completion of drying process, I will set them for the rooting.

Selected 6 of Astrophytum hybrids posted on 20th August were set for the rooting in this morning.
The main potting-mix is 60% pumice sand and 40% organic material.
Top 20 mm is pumice sand only.
Pots are 125 mm square pot.

4 of Ariocarpus retusus v major degrafted in 2014 had grown well and I repotted in this afternoon.
They are around 15 cm in diameter.

After repotted
All roots were fine roots, I could not see any tap roots.

7 off-sets of Geohintonia mexicana, around 1 cm in diameter were grafted on Peleskiopsis stocks two years ago.
They have grown well and have reached 5~6 cm in diameter.
I degrafted them with short stocks in this morning.

Cutting back the stock by a knife to the target length, 20 mm
The union of one of them were broken off during this job and it was moved to a normal degrafting.
As the result, 6 scions were set for the rooting.

3 scions turned to monstrous form were degrafted in the morning.
The grafting affected the formation.
Sions have short Pereskiopsis stocks and 8 cm square pots.

Hi, I'd just like to say everything looks beautiful (I know it's obvious). I won't be degrafting anything for some time since I'm just getting started but I hope far in the future I'll have some results like yours. Good stuff :)

The life of Peleskiopsis is short when it was used for a grafting stock.

If you grafted a few months old seedling in spring, the scion will reach a flowering size within 2 years.
Pereskiopsis will loose all leaves in second winter which you can not expect a speedy growing of the scion.

When the stock lost leaves,it is the time to degraft the scion.
I degraft scions when they are 2 years old.

24 of very young seedlings were grafted 2 years ago.
Scions are Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower.

I started to degraft in this morning. Each scion has a short stock.
Since the size of scions were various, pots were selected to meet the size of scions.
6 largest scions were selected at first and set on 125 mm square pots for the rooting.

Last 6 did not fit in 9 cm square pots and went into 12.5 cm square pots in this morning.
I completed the degrafting of 24 Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower.
The photo is last 6.
