7george: I love how you are using your basement? window for growing plants as well! But for me, I'd be afraid of kicking the glass when walking on the deck and shattering the glass. Clumsy feet!

Hi, Jerry! Every window is in use, even some of the North facing in the house. I was also lucky to have this deck the size of 2 rooms South side even the neighbors' house troughs a large shade.

Image
Inside the portable GH: it fits about 40 - 50 small or medium sized pots. Raises maximum temps about 20C or more in a sunny day. Others stay indoors or just on the deck.
postimages.org is now unavalable :( but Flickr holds firm as it is a paid service.

From last night.

Against the odds I'm trying to grow some non-hardy Opuntia, maybe ficus-indica. All are my seedlings from the same fruit. Scars are from an early-season frost.

This year's gain is rather fantastic.

Interesting branching after the tip was damaged.

Indeed ficus-indica. I grew the same one from small segment of commercial monstrose opuntia.

The above Opuntia produced 2 pads from those buds in the past weeks utilising summery weather.

Almost time to bring gentles indoors but I will hold for another week maybe: the forecast is dry & sunny without frost.

My Myrtillocactus grows ~ 1 inch a year, that is the potential of home-pot culture here.

Some mamms are still in bloom with last flowers.

I used cheap garden greenhouses (lasts 2-3 seasons) before I built polycarbonate summer greenhouse, later one more smaller. I havent possibility to build sll year round GH. Cacti on the window and in GH are like day and night.
But in South in open air is as polar day. ))

Cacti on the window and in GH are like day and night.
I know this. But building and dismantling a solid GH and even evacuating plants in time is a problem for me. So fast seasons change here.

Winter blooms here, a very first bloom for these plants. Mammillaria huitzilopochtli ssp. niduliformis L 1495, about 9 years from seeds.
December is here with snow and cold outside.

T. valdesianus is not hard to grow: just pick a sunny spot and do not overwater it, dry during the whole winter. I've got mine as grown seedlings, from seed these would be slow in cool climate I guess.

T. valdesianus is not hard to grow: "

Not too bad except when I tried soil less then they rotted so I switched back. The Mammillaria lasiacantha you have is also sensitive and will rot easy.

I have trouble with Turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus and alonsoi for some reason still working on it. Not root rot more like stem rot. werid
