Native Oregon Cacti – Part 2

Post by dvdmsy »

It's been a few years since I posted this (viewtopic.php?t=16391" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) as I don't get out to the dry side of Oregon often (living in NYC). This month, I returned.:

Opuntia polyacantha hybrid perhaps? Umatilla, Oregon where it was 105 degrees this week.:

The Painted Hills in the John Day National Monument, and Opuntia fragilis or columbiana.:

Lastly, not all native opuntia, but a prickly garden that I leave to fend for itself in my parents' Portland area backyard.:

Well, it is interesting to see cacti native to Oregon. Looking at your images, it seems, like it could be quite a painful experience to accidentally detect those prickly pear cacti while walking around and stepping into a clump of them. They certainly blend in well with their surrounding landscape.
