Hana's cacti
Re: Hana's cacti
I could not see any new cacti flowers in this morning.
Seedlings of Ariocarpus grow slowly but Pots will be tight someday because they grow.
The attached photo is Ariocarpus seedlings sown seeds in 2009. All seeds were harvested from my plants.
I have ont seen their flowers yet.
Photo 1: Before removed from pots, cacti are in 9.5 cm square pots
Photo 2: After repotted, new pots are 12.5 cm

Re: Hana's cacti
Good day--
Your posts are fascinating, particularly as I have somewhat successfully germinated and grown Ariocarpus from seed that are now six months old after reading a dated, but very useful paper, Living Rocks of Mexico, Growing Ariocarpus from Seed, by Andreas Laras. The foundation of this paper and your posts have lead me to strong success.
I needed to comment on your recent photos of the Asterias: the first photo is so perfect and beautiful. It is so perfect that one almost experiences an optical illusion effect of the globe and flower floating and growing.
Thank you for your wealth of knowledge and experience.
Bret

A myrtillocactus geometrizans planted in my backyard has been in flower. I think I will see many fruits in this season.

Re: Hana's cacti
Good morning Frank!
Good to see your plants flower.
The weather still very wet, non-stop raining day and night. The temperature and sun are still not ideal for flowering. Will be the same for the next few weeks.

G'morning Bryan,
It is quite similar to your place in here.
September should be spring but it has not been yet even if it was October.
We need more sunshine days.

Re: Hana's cacti
I bought 50 seeds of Ariocarpus retusus and sowed on 30th August 2003.
I lost many of seedlings by various reasons but some of them have survived.
The photo is one of them, the largest retusus in my place which is 20 cm in diameter and 20 cm tall.
The shape of tubercles on this cactus was normal initially but they have turned to a special shape like beak of bird. Two of retusus show this special tubercles. I checked various retusus by Google but I could not see any retusus which have similar tubercles.

Two species of Gymnocalycium were in flower yesterday.
I have kept several plants of each species but only these two were in flower.

Re: Hana's cacti
Hi! That A. retusus from 2003 is stunning, and the redundancy in the tubercle resembling a bird's beak is really interesting. Have you considered crossing the two specimens that have this characteristic? If you already have, did you see the characteristic passed on? It really gives volume and a great appearance to your plant.
Thank you for sharing.

Re: Hana's cacti
G'morning Bret,
I have kept 12 retusus which are called tri-fingers.
My freind gave me seeds and I sowed in 2018. I grafted 12 seedlings because i wanted to see result earlier.
unfortunately just 2 have given some evidence of tri-fingers. I will continue to see this species.

I have not crossed two cacti and have not considered crossing. It takes too long to see the result for me.Have you considered crossing the two specimens that have this characteristic? If you already have, did you see the characteristic passed on?
