Nice astrophytums! I'm assuming that the first one is a hanazono hybrid as well?

In the first photo, Img 2538, I'm wondering about the flower coming out on the side. I thought they all flowered from the top.

G'morning memememe and Jerry,
the first one is a hanazono hybrid as well?
I bought seeds as "super kabuto" but it seems the cactus is mixed the gene of hanazono.
I can also see some other super kabutos shown same type of flowering.
In the first photo, Img 2538, I'm wondering about the flower coming out on the side. I thought they all flowered from the top.
Normal asterias flowers come out from areoles on top area of the cactus.
Flowers of hanazono kabuto come out from both areoles and other locations which means flowers come out from any locations.
Hanazono means a flower garden.

I attached a photo of typical hanazono kabuto for your information.

Merry Christmas Frank. We should see temps down to about 10F or neg 12 C tonight. It was up to 50F or 10 C yesterday. It plunged in the afternoon. All the rain we were having turned to ice.

Question on the last photo, E. horizonthalonius v nicholii img 2559. Is that a monstrose plant? Or was it damaged and grew back? Something like getting split down the middle and then growing back? It sure looks different.

I am not sure the reason but the cactus was split once up and grown back. I have one more similar appearence of horizonthalonius.

Thanks for letting me know Frank. Cacti are pretty tough plants.

It was a hot day yesterday. Since the room temperature of the greenhouse was 51 'C, I could not stay in long time but I could take 4 photos of matured super kabutos.
