Hana's grafting in 2016/2017
Re: Hana's grafting in 2016/2017
How many flowers can a year old grafted Asteria give ?
Re: Hana's grafting in 2016/2017
One year old grafted asterias will be in flower 4~5 times per year between spring and autumn.
They can only make one or two flowers each time because they are still very young.

The scion on the photo is an Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower.
The current size is 8 cm in diameter.
It has started to show the character of "cauliflower".

Grafting stocks form off-shoots vigorously in the growing season.
You have to remove these off-shoots which is a key job to accelerate the growing rate of scions.
I removed all off-shoots yesterday. The photo is stocks and scions after removed off-sets.

Re: Hana's grafting in 2016/2017
Hi Frank, you plants amazing, like always
i have some questions, last two years i grow many seeds of astrophytum cultivars, , most of the seeds was mixed, and and only few was labeled.
i used your method to grow, and graft them as seedlings onto pereskiopsis,
now, i have too much plants and less space in my greenhouse, and i want start to get off of some plants that not will grow as beautiful plants.
there is cultivar that saw character after flower?
if i have plants that already flower, this is the "last" forming they will saw?
here two examples to my questions:
this seed was bought from Japan as "特選ミラクル兜錦", as you can see, it's not varigeted and not show any character of miracle, but it's already flower there is any chance he will be one day? if he already flower he arrived to "mature" stage, and from my acknowledge at this stage they not change the growing form:
here another exmaple, this seeds arrived from top selected collection of astrophytum, none of those plant are "usual" & each one of them is plants you saw in "instgram" photos, now this plant saw little bit "star shape" and this is the flower, there is any change it will grow for specific cultivar?
i know the genetic have a strong role in my question (special the second one), but if we put this part at the side.
Thanks,
Uri
