Degrafting question

Post by abdulhafezzahruddin »

Hi,
I have just degraft this Astrophytum myriostigma tricostatum nudum.
My concern is, how long should I wait for it to callous before I try to root it?
Can we share ways of rooting degrafted cacti? I just want to read suggestions and experiences. ☺️♥️

I use 2 weeks for the drying.
Drying agent, garden-lime is sprinkled over cutting face.
I do not know the size of your myriostigma but I degraft scions more than 3 cm in diameter which are easy to root.
You have already cut the scion off but a smaller cutting face is easier to root.

The rooting of a myriostigma is not difficult.

Thank you Hanazono for the guides. I have a few Astros that I wish to degraft but I am scared to do so because they are on Pereskiopsis. I have read that it is hard to degraft...

I also use Pereskiopsis as the grafting stock.
Peleskiopsis is not a permanent stock and so you have to degraft the scion someday.

It is not so difficult.
You just remove all Pereskiopsis elements from the scion.

I am afraid of leaving pereskiopsis remaining inside the scion... How do we know that there is no pereskiopsis remain in the cactus. I am still a beginner 😂😂😂

Also, why does this happen. It was ok the first week and later developed orangey stuff. Three days ago, a hole started to form... Quite sad because this is Astro Hanazono... 😫
