Flowering size in 9 months is miraculous. I've always heard it takes 5-7 years for them to flower from seed.

6 of 11 godzilla scions were in flower in this season.
They were pollinated but I am not sure I could harvest any seeds or not.
They are very young.

Frank, what tool are you using for pollinating? I used to use a brush but am wondering if there is a more reliable technique.

I'm not Frank, but I use jewlers' tweezers to take the stamen from one flower and brush the whole thing against the female parts of the other flower. I do it this way because no matter what kind of brush/swab I use, it always seems to retain some of the pollen and I want to get as much of it as possible onto the seed-forming parts. However, this method is really tedious and precise if you have a hundreds of crosses. Luckily I only have a few per year.

I pollinate as same as Aloinopsis doing except Discocactus.

Since the stigma of Discocactus is in bottom area of flower and you can not use the same method.
I use thin and long cotton bar.

A scion, Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv cauliflower was in flower yesterday.
Since my friend gave me seeds, I am not sure the history of seeds.
The colour of flower is not a normal retusus.

Rooting medium:
I use wet clay granules.
I do not know the chemistry of the clay. I used shifted clay base cat litter.
Since water will never reach into the hole by normal watering, I use wet clay granules.
It is possible to use any permeable materials but you have to upside down scion for the setting of root after filled in the material.
Wet cray granules can hold in the hole during this job.”
Hello! I hope it is ok to revisit this question...

I will eventually like to try to root some astrophytum using your method. I purchased a bag of clay cat litter (non-clumping, non-scented) but I don't think I got the right product. When I got it wet, the clay particles got sticky and I could squish them apart with my fingers. This doesn't seem like it would be good for rooting, but I wanted to check... Perhaps I got raw clay by accident?

Thank you!

G'morning Madalyneb,

I think the clay you described is not good for filling material of rooting.
It may be raw clay.

Ariocarpus fissuratus cv godzilla
I can see fruits on 5 scions. I may be able to harvest more than 100 seeds in spring.

Strombocactus disciformis
8 scions have taken but they grow very slowly.
