Lithops Deteriorating

Post by Em-1ly »

Hey!
I got these lithops a couple of weeks ago and since I got them they have been shrivelling up and deteriorating rapidly, they where plump when I got them, I watered the plant after getting it not knowing that you shouldn't, only the once and has been drying out on the window sill since, is there anything I can do to save them or are they gonners?

Any help would be so much appreciated!

Thanks,

Emily :(

No help will revive these.

The soil looks soggy in all your pictures. And the soil it is in is not what I would use myself. So your Lithops died of (assumingly) too soggy bad soil.

Hi Aiko!
Thankyou for your response. Unfortunately they came in this soil and by the time I had researched what they needed I think I was too late. It looked pretty healthy when I got it, then went a little wrinkled so I watered it! The fatal mistake I guess! Ahhh well, at least I'll be better with the next one!
Thanks for your time,

Emily

Ps. I also bought what I believe is an Opuntia and a Astrophytum Myriostigma from the same store, is it safe to assume these will need repotting in the correct soil immediately given what happened to the Lithops? These two look pretty root bound in these little pots!

yes I would think so. I always wonder how stores keep these kinds of plants alive in soil that is mostly ground up pieces of wood ? I bought a couple Lithops from a home depot or maybe Lowes ? They were in potting soil so I took them out right away and moved to a mostly pumice soil. I think I posted pictures here on this site under succulents. They are still alive I don't water them too much. Amazing how little water they need.
