Lankester Gardens, Costa Rica

Post by leland »

This garden specializes in orchids and heliconia but also has a small cactus and succulent garden. There are some mature specimens but few are labeled. The Stenocereus aragonii and an unlabeled Pereskia were really great specimens.

Overall, it offers a great hour walk on well maintained paths. The orchids are best from February to April, but we were there in late July and they had about a dozen species blooming. There were about 6 species of helconia in bloom, too. This is a stop on one of the common day tours sold at hotels and tour agencies in San Jose. I wanted to spend a little more time so we went by bus, about 30-40 minutes from downtown San Jose during non-rush hour.
