Tephrocactus geometricus on a Echinopsis peruviana rootstock?

Hi!

Have anyone tried to graft a Tephrocactus geometricus on a Echinopsis peruviana (or Echinopsis pachanoi) rootstock?
I do not have any good rootstock in the opuntioideae subfamily.

Don't see why not as Opuntia clavaroides obviously takes on Trichocereus:-

Today my cactus arrived with the mail.
It was very expensive and quite ugly

The first thing I did was to cut it in parts.
My plan is to reroot the fine part (number 1 in picture) and graft one of the ugly parts (2 or 3).
The main plant has been repotted. It's a pity that the ugly parts are so damaged, but maybe I can get fine offsets in the future.

They look fairly dehydrated.

No.1 looks OK but the black ends of No.2 and No.3 looks as if it has dried up with some type of infection. I would get the pointed tip of a knife under the black scab part and peel it off since you can usually peel off dead tissue from the live part underneath, then let it form a clean scab.

The black scab doesn't look good, do you think It's ok to remove the scab on number 2 before the plant has rooted?

Hope number 1 will root fast, I don't think the plant has got any water in a long time. Have not decided if I should "sacrifice" a Echinopsis for grafting yet.

Yes just peel it off then let the joint stand unpotted for a week for a new clean callous to form.

Most of the plant was completely rotten.
I paid 50€ for the plant so I really hope that I can root the only fine part left, I removed some brown parts of it too.

Sounds like you should ask for a refund. Or at least ask 2/5 of your money back if the remaining three bits root well enough.

I am a little concern about the "healthy" part, it got two spots that looks like a beginning of the same rot.
If the part root it's ok, Tephrocactus geometricus cacti are expensive. But if it starts to rot I will ask for a refund.
