It begins!

Post by Licespray »

Went out and collected a load. After the dumb idea of digging down in the lowest spot of the yard to try and make a cactus garden (and subsequently having it flooded by the neighbours) I’m now going to build up like I should have and was told to.

So we got the first load today, going to start doing the layout on Tuesday or if time allows beforehand.

Still plenty left. We barely made a dent in the pile and there’s at least 4 of these piles.

If I measured right, this garden should be about 20mx1.5m. (60’x5’)

Borrowed the work truck, having a tipper makes unloading a breeze..!

Boy, that looks like you got your work cut out for you! In German, if you say, that someone is "steinreich", which translates to "stone rich", it means, that this is a very wealthy person. Well, you are in the true sense of the word "steinreich", with all those rocks. :)
I wish you well with the construction of raised beds, etc.

If the garden doesn't work out you could always build a nice wall :P

I thought of cementing a load in to make a front fence/wall for the yard, but may look a bit odd in this street.

There you go! That what I call some serious drainage material - or good ballast rock for a logging road.

No bathtub effect this time for sure..!

I can go back for more stone too as the guy is more than happy for me to clear it up.

It’s mostly some sandstone stuff.

Unfortunately I’ll still need to buy the filling soil. Unsure on the mix to go with. Going to use some of the local clay, probably some gravel from a friends quarry (depending size), and maybe some kind of organic mulch (in a small amount).
