hegar wrote: Sat Apr 13, 2019 1:05 am Hello Vincent,
I agree with the previous posters: you certainly do have nice and healthy looking plants. That Gymnocactus with the deep pink flowers and the Turbinicarpus (first image) are my favorites thus far.
One question: How do you handle the cholla? Their spines attach easily to you and will not let go. I am using heavy duty leather gloves, but even those are not allowing effortless handling of that plant. I was thinking of perhaps purchasing "butcher gloves", those that do have some wire mesh. I also do have a long handled tongs to grab and hold onto some of the cacti and a fish hook remover (disgorger) for weeding near a cactus with ferocious spines.

I have other grusonia’s and use tongs or use string to choke around them and kind of handle them that way. I also put them in spots were I don’t have to reach past or get near because like you said they will reach out and grab you. I handle most others bare handed. Due to my job my hands are pretty tough so don’t mind getting poked a little bit

That is a nice flower on that columnar cactus. I do not have any tropical cacti in my collection, because I am forced to grow all my plants outdoors, except for an Epiphyllum or Hylocereus and a Peniocereus maculatus. I do have, however, a Pachycereus marginatus (Mexican fence post cactus) planted on the southside of the house. It has survived several winters, most likely because the winters since the record cold one in 2011 were pretty mild.

How tall does this pilosocereus have to be to bloom? I remember reading the flowers are stinky. Is that right?

Is anyone interested in some free seedlings? Have a few different echinocereus and haageocereus that I would be willing to give to couple people.. if you want I’ll ship them in the pot as I just reported with fresh soil or bareroot

That’s a Glandulicactus. I’ll get a better picture of the whole plant soon. It’s been growing pretty good for me in full sun
