I love this forum. I've learned so much here I can't believe it sometimes. I remember thinking I'd never be able to ID a cactus species by looking at it and a couple days ago I was at Lowes looking at their cactus' like "That's a trichocereus and that's a mammillaria." Haha. Thanks everyone for being so kind and helpful. I don't know what I would've done without this site. Learned how to grow from seed, cactus soil mixes, how to get flowers and grafting all right here.

Grafts are surprising me with how fast they're growing.

I'm curious if you'll be able to germinate those Austrocactus seeds you just ordered. I've tried them a couple times and had no luck. Looks like you've been having really good germination from the other cacti you've tried. Have you tried Sclerocactus, yet?

I've tried grafting some things to Pereskiopsis, too, but most of the grafts failed. How did you keep the scions on the rootstocks? I used a bit of superglue. I've seen some people use things like rubber bands but seedlings are so tiny I don't think rubber bands will work for them. Did you just place the scions on top and did nothing more and they grew together? I thought doing that wouldn't work so great so I haven't tried it but if that works for you maybe I should reconsider.

Thats exactly what i did. I tried covering them with plastic wrap and tiny lil ziploc baggies but that just smashed the scions or got them crooked or completely off the root stock so i just opted to place them where i wanted them, press to make sure there was good contact and put them under a humidity dome. I also learned to make sure the rootstocks soil was dry before grafting otherwise the rootstock would "bleed" and the union wouldnt work.

According to this link and is confirmed by Shane, all you need to do is gently press the scion on to the stock (pereskiopsis) to remove the trapped bubbles between them...

Obviously, i've never tried it myself...

But i hope it helps

OH YES...thanks for the super glue methode...it was unknown to me and it seems strange enough, BUT, there is a thread about it...hahaha
