I acquired some 6 unknown Gymnocalycium seed pods(i think some are gymnocalycium mihanovichii). I cut open the seed pods and I did spread the seed pod pulp on a tissue. And left it for drying for one day.
Please help me on how to grow these and I have some questions also.
Do you really have to sterilize the seeds before sowing( should I use Isopropyl alcohol or H2O2 solution)
There are still the remains of the seed pod on some of the seeds should I clean it or just sow them.
Do these seeds require any special treatment before sowing.
Thank you for any advice it would be really helpful.
These are the seeds of 2 pods after drying.Unknown Gymnocalycium seeds

Re: Unknown Gymnocalycium seeds
They look a little odd for being cactus seed. Are you sure of your source? I sowed some Gymnocalycium seed a few years ago but I don't recall them looking anything like that.
I just give mine a good rinse with water using a coffee filter before sowing. They shouldn't need any special treatment.

Thanks. I think they look odd because I zoomed and took the picture from my phone. I am 100% sure they are gymnocalycium because I got the whole seed pot at once.

OK - when looking at them in a USB-microscope they look like this

That must be it, I didn't have anything in the picture to give a sense of scale.Dodi Russell wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 12:03 pm Thanks. I think they look odd because I zoomed and took the picture from my phone. I am 100% sure they are gymnocalycium because I got the whole seed pot at once.
