Light for Astrophytum Seedlings

Post by MitchellM »

I started a bunch of seed 3 days ago and I was surprised Astrophytum myriostigma v tamaulipense, Astrophytum coahuilense and Astrophytum asterias are germinating already. Is a 2 foot 4 tube T5 fixture with 2 slots empty and 1 each of Spectralux 6500k and 3000k tubes 10-1/2 inches from the soil surface too much light?

Should be ok, I think, but if the seedlings turn very red raise the light farther from them or use shading (a layer of tissue paper works well). We've got a thread on growing asterias from seed, check it out:
