Rooting Pachypodium Lamerei?

Post by nona »

I have (had?) a 2+ foot Pachypodium Lamerei that I kept dry under a covered verandah
over winter. Previous years, no problem. Come spring this year I was horrified to see
the bottom 4 inches of the trunk had rotted.

I've cut above the rot leaving clean flesh and 2ft. What are the chances it will root
- or does it need the original base/root structure to survive? Thanks.

I found these buried in the pot soil when I removed the plant - just weeds?

hmmm, generally it seems pachypodiums can be propagated by stem cuttings, so it seems doable. Cut with sterile knife and let dry for a week before repotting. The roots you dug up look like flower bulbs...or onions ;)

Great! Thanks. Had my doubts as I once tried it on a much smaller plant without luck. Googling
didn't help until I tried the magic words 'Pachypodium cutting' per your reply and immediately a
YouTube video appeared. Now I'm tempted to take a 'mid cut' as well.
