Fungus on seedling?

Post by Shane »

Is this orange stuff fungus. I noticed it on one of my Astrophytum seedlings. If it is fungus, is it safe to use sulfur on cactus seedlings?

A light dusting of sulfur is ok. Fungicides won't save seedlings that are already infected, but might help keep it from spreading.

I’ve never tried sulfur, but I’ve found Neem oil and cinnamon powder (high quality) helpful at keeping fungus at bay. Neither will probably save an already-infected seedling, but it will protect the others. Good air circulation (with a small fan) and allowing the soil to dry between waterings are key.

It's one of my favorite seedlings, and was one of the healthiest looking, I'm really sad to hear it's going to die :(

I may try grafting to save it. Any opinions whether this would work? For what it's worth, the flesh is still healthy and not discolored or mushy or anything

If you treat it with fungicides, the damage may stop spreading and the seedlings will eventually “grow out of it.” It will look misshapen for awhile. But all hope is not lost.
