Hello Keith,
I remember, that a few years ago my local Cactus and Rock Club was having a meeting that was also open to the public and cacti were on sale there too. One of the plants was purchased by a lady, who noticed that after only a little over one hour after she purchased it, it was flowering.
Those plumose spines really did hid the flower buds well.
