Late August heat wave in the upper 90s f (~36*c) stimulated my Mammillaria rhodhantha ssp. pringlei to make a big flush of flower buds - now blooming a few at a time, with temperatures in the mid 80s f (~30*c):

Sorry the leave you hanging. Yes a property going to be bulldozed. They had 8 of these some as high as your waist. I got one, a landscape company grabbed the rest. We call it our "rescue". She is doing great!

Due to the strange weather - a cool, late spring, and now warm weather lingering into autumn - my Setiechinopsis mirabilis are blooming unusually late. Blooming or trying to, that is - the first one started budding the first of September and just bloomed, the other one is a bit later and I don't know if it will make it. Here's the one flower starting to open, about 9:20 PM -

A half-hour later I couldn't see any change, so I took a nap. Didn't get back to it until 2:00 AM, and it was in full bloom, maybe past its peak, some of the petals starting to curl a little. Temperature was 54*f -

By 4:00AM, the petals were really starting to curl, it was all downhill from there -

Temperatures cooled down after that one S. mirabilis bloomed, the bud on the other one stopped growing. Rainy season has started in earnest, the cacti are indoors now in a cool room with little light, haven't been watered since Sept 20. None of this has stopped the M. rhodantha ssp. pringlei:

Originally posted this in its own thread because my search word capabilities apparently stink; I couldn't find this thread!

New to this wonderful hobby, and yes, I've read all the newcomer/newbie posts, but admit that I may still mess up so please let me know if this is inappropriate.

Anyway, the reason for my post? My Peruvian apple cactus is close to blooming! I'm posting some pictures here. The first one is from three days ago. The second one is from this evening. It's opening up!

And then last night, not two hours after taking the above pictures, this happened!
